In the world of watercolor, Kelly Merrick's success lies in painting what comes near and dear to her heart - our "Canine Companions". As a life long lover of dogs, who has never been without at least one four-legged family member, her passion lies in painting portraits of Man's Best Friend for those who wish to give a special gift, or to immortalize a favorite family pet, hunting partner, or friend. Working from photos, Kelly captures the true spirit and personality of her canine clients, and provides an affordable means to preserve precious memories.
Kelly began her art career by enrolling in watercolor classes through the local community colleges. Though beginning to master the complexity of watercolor as a medium, she still searched for the one subject that would "ignite" her heart as well as her paintbrush.
With the support of her husband, she began studying under accomplished artists around the Northwest to improve her technique and pursue a niche which she believes is an important one to those who consider their pets part of their family. "Being able to meet and photograph my subjects gives me almost as much joy as completing the finished portrait itself and seeing the excitement on my clients face. I feel truly blessed to be able to share the gift that God has given me with others through my paintings, and the stories they tell."
Giving Back
"For it is in giving, that we receive" St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals
Kelly's love of dogs and other animals extends beyond her watercolor paintings. Her involvement with animal related causes ranges from supporting silent & live auctions by donating her artwork, to participation in animal walks like the "Doggie Dash" and "Paws in the Park", a fundraiser for the local Humane Society. Most recently, Kelly donated a commissioned piece of Art to the Feral Cat Coalition's annual fundraiser, "The Furball". "I feel like animals give us so much companionship and comfort, it's our duty and a pleasure for me to give back."
